Obituary for April M. Farmer

April M. Farmer
April M. Farmer, 36, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away peacefully at her home on September 30, 2017. Born April 5, 1981, to Michael and Virginia Mitchell, April was a graduate of Raytown High School and the University of Missouri. She married Kyle Farmer on December 31, 2003. April often said she knew she loved him for the first time in Heathrow Airport in London. She thought she’d lost her passport, but Kyle had it in his pocket the whole time. Upon graduating with a master’s degree in instruction and curriculum in 2004, April began her teaching career in the Camdenton School District followed by four wonderful years in the Columbia School District. April, however, truly thrived in her second career as a stay-at-home mom to three wonderful children who were her pride and joy. Beyond her accomplishments, April was simply a good person. She was fun to be around and was always able to brighten a person’s day with a smile or witty comment. She was a remarkable listener; one of those rare people who actually took the time to listen and honestly care enough to learn more about you. She was always ready to help, often having to be talked out of jumping in her car and driving headlong into whatever disaster or catastrophe was going on in the world. Most of all, April was a great friend. Fiercely loyal, April was always ready to lend a shoulder to cry on or to take action on your behalf. April loved to serve others. She was always looking for ways to give back to her community and the less fortunate whether through Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, donating her hair to Locks of Love or volunteering in her church where she served as a Minster of Holy Communion. Her service always came with an infectious laugh, movie quotes and the desire to do it again. Fortunately, all of April’s best qualities live on in her children. Moe, 11, carries on April’s sensitivity and intuition for the needs of others and the willingness to help in any situation. Franki, 10, exudes the complete and genuine empathy that was the hallmark of her mother’s personality. And Henry, 8, shares April’s unbridled passion for life and the ability to find the good in every person and every day. A rosary will be said Thursday October 5 at Langsford Funeral Home from 6 to 6:15 p.m. to be immediately followed by a visitation until 8 p.m. Funeral will be Friday October 6 at St. Margaret of Scotland Church at 10 a.m. Graveside service will follow at Floral Hills East Cemetery.
