Obituary for Jimmy Wayne Jakes

Jimmy Wayne Jakes, age 68, of Lee's Summit, MO passed away on January 30th, 2017 at home. Jimmy was born to Jim and Uriel Jakes on October 26, 1948 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He joined the Air Force during the Vietnam conflict and then received his bachelor's degree at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. He married Sue Wills on May 12, 1969. He worked at the Internal Revenue Service, Kansas City Branch most of his adult life. Jim and Sue had two sons, John and Charles.

In the later part of his life Jimmy responded to the invitation to follow Jesus as Lord. He then felt led to join Gideons International, a Bible and gospel sharing organization. He discovered the joy and importance of sharing the saving faith he had found in Jesus Christ. He also truly enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, his step-brother Robert, and his step-sister Louise.
His survivors include his wife Sue, his sons and their wives John (Amy) Jakes and Charles (Shannon) Jakes, his grandchildren Peter, Grace, Taylor, Emma, Katie, Mackenzie, and Payton; his sister Sarah (Mink) Travis; and his twin brother Billy (Kathy) Jakes; and their families. He is also survived by his brother in law Ted Wills; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

The funeral for Jimmy Wayne Jakes will be held Friday, February 3, 2017 at 1:30 PM at Langsford Funeral Home with burial services at Floral Hills East cemetery. Friends may call on the family during the visitation Thursday, February 2, 2017 between 6-8 PM at Langsford Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons of the Greater Kansas City Area.
