Obituary for Gail Henry Koenke
Gail H. Koenke, 71 of Bates City, MO went to sleep in Jesus Monday March 5th. A visitation will be held Thursday March 8, 2018 at 5:00 pm at Lee’s Summit Seventh Day Adventist Church located at 12501 South 7 Hwy, Lee’s Summit, MO 64063 a memorial service will follow at 6:00 pm.
Gail was born September 29, 1946 in Independence, Missouri to Hillard and Zelma Koenke. He graduated from Van Horn High School Class of 1965, was drafted into the United States Army in March of 1966 and married his high school sweetheart Emily Atherton on April 8, 1967. The first year of their marriage was spent getting to know each other while stationed in Germany. Together, they proudly raised two daughters and were blessed with nearly 51 years of memories.
In his spare time Gail loved the outdoors! Fishing, camping, canoeing, boating, backpacking, hiking or anything he could do close to nature. He especially enjoyed going to the races (motorcycle, dirt track, drag, etc.) and refused to let ALS stop him. He shared this enjoyment with others as well and would often be seen racing off with his grandkids and others for rides on his wheel chair. One of his most rewarding accomplishments was the achievement of Master Guide and working with Pathfinders. Gail was most known for his willingness to be of service to all who called on him for help.
Gail will be missed and remembered by his wife Emily of the home, daughter Jandra and husband Quinn Hancock along with their children Dakota and Savanah, his daughter Suzie and husband Gerry Apel and their children Abigayle and Spencer, honorary son Andre Belz and wife Paloma and their children Ferdinando and Marina of Brazil, his siblings Leatrice and husband Jerry Wischmeier, Fordyce and wife Sharon Koenke, Roger and wife Lynda Koenke, sister-in-law Janice and husband Mike Sullivan, plus numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Summit View Adventist School; 12503 S 7 Hwy, Lee’s Summit MO 64063
