Obituary for Jimmy Roy Fender

Jesus picked Jimmy Roy Fender up on January 22, 2017 and took him home. Jimmy was born the oldest child to Leah Louise (Holst) and Roy Jacob Fender on November 28, 1931 in Sedalia, MO. He went all through school at Smith Cotton in Sedalia, MO where he graduated in 1949. He worked during his youth at the Liberty Movie Theater in Sedalia. He married his sweetheart, Shirley Ann England, at the United Methodist Church in Sedalia on August 30, 1953. He was enlisted in the army and was stationed in Germany after the war. He attended Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO. He started in grad school in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Then he went to graduate school at the University of Missouri, Columbia. He took a job at Good Year in Akron, Ohio. They wanted to be closer to family so he took a job with what is now Honeywell. They made their home in Lee’s Summit, MO, where they raised two children and made a host of friends. For a very short time, Jim was a business owner with his brother, David Fender and his brother-in-law, Jim Carmicheal. They opened Wagon Wheel Western Store. Jim and Shirley enjoyed square dancing in the sixties. He was involved in Lay Witness Missions and various prayer groups. He loved to read and watch sports on tv especially football and baseball. He liked being with friends and family and enjoyed playing cards. He truly loved following his grandkids in their athletics and was one of their greatest fans. But his main interest in life, was his wife, Shirley, and he spent a lot of time spoiling her. He attended Raintree Community Church where he made some solid friends in Christ that he valued greatly. Waiting for him in heaven was his wife, Shirley, his mother and his father and his special niece, Kay Cook. Celebrating his life and thanking God for being a part of his time on earth are his son and his family, Dr. Roger Fender and Sheryl, Lauren and Josh Barnard, and Mason Fender; his daughter and her family, Kathy Long and Keith, Nathan and Abby Long and Julianne, Hudson, Everett, and Charlie, Kassie and Judge Joe Don McGaugh, Nora Kate, Vivian, and Gemma, and Kaleb and Katie Long, Emmett, Hadley and Josie, very special nieces, Kathie and Laura Cook and their dad, Jack Cook, one sister and her husband, Ruth Ann and Jim Carmichael and one brother and his wife, Dave and Pat Fender along with the families of his nephews, Rory Fender, Robert Fender, Rick Fender and nieces Leanne Snodgrass and Pam Wilson, and nephew, Ronnie Carmichael, and a host of friends. Jim was a rock for his family and friends. He had strong faith and lived what he believed. His quiet ways touched all those who knew him. He will be greatly missed. He will lie next to his wife at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to The White Feather Prayer Chapel, 414 N. Main, Carrollton, MO 64633 in memory of Jim or Kids Across American in celebration of Jim’s life.
