Shirley Viola (Baty) Timmerman 83 of Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Centerpoint Medical Center of Ovarian Cancer. Visitation service will be from 6:00 to 8:00, Thursday, January 18th at Langsford Funeral Home 115 SW 3 rd ST. Lee's Summit, MO. With Private family burial at Higginsville Military Cemetery.
Shirley was born August 1, 1934 in Aurora, South Dakota to Harold Ace and Charlotte (Williams) Baty. Graduating early from East High School she meet the love of her life Jewell "JR" Timmerman. Shirley was the secretary for the President of Butler Manufacturing in Kansas City until the birth of her one and only child Michael Jewell. When he started school she obtained her Real Estate License with Eugene D. Brown in Raytown, where she truly enjoyed getting people into the home of their dreams. She later purchased Specialty Products Company. A whole sale lumber company in Independence where "JR", Michael and his wife Joyce currently run for over 45 years. She was also very passionate about her neighborhood where she was on the board as well as the Architectural and Planning Control committee for many years. She was instrumental in getting the Little Blue Water Shed Coalition started at her place of business in hopes of getting the cities, counties and the state working together with the goal of protecting neighborhoods from possible water issues as communities developed, while trying to keep our environment as natural as possible.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 64 years Jewell of the home, her son Michael J. and wife Joyce of Independence. Her brother John Baty and wife Elaine of Blue Springs, her two nieces Tonya Pate (John) of Lee's Summit, and family, Rhonda Bailey (Pat) of Lee's Summit and family, nephew John Ace Baty (Leslie) of Blue Springs and family, along with many extended family members in South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Charlotte Baty of Gladstone. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
