Obituary for Rosemary R. Draheim

Rosemary R. Draheim
Charles M. and Anna Ruth Fry celebrated the birth of Rosemary (Rosie) Ruth on December 30, 1933, at her home in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the only daughter among six brothers. After battling Alzheimer’s disease for over 10 years and surviving a massive stroke, she passed away on June 7, 2017, at the age of 83, surrounded by her family. In 1957, Rosie married Walter Draheim, the love of her life, and they began a long and loving partnership. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage in August. Rosie spent the majority of her life in the Independence, Missouri, area. She was a lifelong member of Blue Ridge Boulevard Christian Church. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1951. Following graduation, she became an employee of Armco Steel as an Executive Secretary. A family developed upon the birth of two children, Linda in 1962 and Carol in 1965. As a homemaker, Rosie dedicated her life to providing a loving and nurturing family home. Rosie was a marvelous cook who loved hosting large gatherings of family and friends. No one ever left hungry after indulging in her delicious, made from scratch recipes. She was best known for baking her famous “chip chocolate” cookies that drew rave reviews from all who tasted them. A seamstress par excellence, Rosie enjoyed sewing special occasion dresses including homecomings and proms. She even sewed all 10 bridesmaid’s dresses and both wedding gowns for her daughters’ weddings. One of Rosie’s greatest joys in life was being a Grandma. Rosie was blessed with six grandchildren – Stephanie, Christopher, Patrick, Alex, Blake and Addison – who referred to her as Grandma Rosie or Regular Mokie. She spoiled them rotten! A stickler for traditions, she continued her passion for sewing by making pajamas for every Christmas Eve and personalized a stocking for each grandchild. Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ralph and Chuck. She is survived by her adoring husband Walter, her daughter and son-in-law - Linda and Dean Miller, her daughter Carol Howe, her six grandchildren, and four brothers – Ed, Bob, John and Jim Fry. Services will be held at The Summit Church, 114 SE Douglas Street. Lee’s Summit, MO, with Visitation beginning at 9:30 am and Celebration of Life immediately following at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 13, 2017. Interment will be at Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens, 25203 East US Highway 50, Lee’s Summit, MO. Contributions can be made to the National Alzheimer’s Foundation.
