Obituary for Howard George Norwat

Howard George Norwat, age 100, passed away on Wednesday August 12, 2015 at the Missouri Veterans Home. A memorial service will be Tuesday August 18, 2015 at Langsford Funeral Home at 2:00pm. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Missouri Veterans Home – Warrensburg, MO.
He was born in Harbor Creek, PA on October 6, 1914 to George and Bertha Hoenof Norwat. He graduated from East High School, Erie, PA in 1931. He married Lucille Jane Donnell on October 26, 1935. He went to work for Talon Zipper Company (Now part of Textron , Inc.) in Meadville, PA on March 18, 1935 as a chain machine operator. He worked for Talon until his retirement in October, 1979, with the exception of when he served in the Army during WWII. He entered the army on April 10, 1944 and was discharged on December 29, 1945 as a staff sergeant, having served in the European Theater. During his career with Talon he was promoted to Foreman and was transferred to New Haven, CT, and later returned to Meadville, PA.He established new plants in Morton and Durant, MS and in Hong Kong. In 1961 he moved to Kansas City as Plant Manager. He moved to St. Louis in 1970 and was Plant Manager there until his retirement at which time he moved to Independence, MO. He and his wife lived there until they moved to John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, MO. He moved to the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg in January, 2015. During both times he lived in the Kansas City area he was an active member of the Pittman Road Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years and all three of his sisters. He is survived by his two sons Donald (Elizabeth) of Lake Winnebago, MO and Gerald (Barbara) of Kansas City, MO, 2 grandsons: Brandon Norwat (Casey) and John Norwat (Lisa), 1 granddaughter: Rebecca Maine (David), 6 great grandsons and 1great granddaughter as well as a step great granddaughter, several nieces and nephews and their families.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Warrensburg, MO for their loving care and concern. Howard will be greatly missed.He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. He was admired and considered a true gentleman by all who knew him.
